Get a full-body buzz at Barre! Feel the burn in a fitness class packed with yoga, weights & barre exercises. All ages welcome. What is Barre? Barre is a class that is based on the elements of barre positions, yoga & pilates. The movements consist of high energy, low-impact & fat-burning exercises. With emphasis on posture & technique, you create long, lean muscles. Bring: yoga mat, light weights (2-3# dumbbells) & water bottle.

 

BODY 360

Start your morning with a boot camp-inspired, calorie-torching workout class! Don't let the boot camp name scare you.  All exercises can be modified to low or high intensity levels. Class ends with 5 minutes of ab exercises. Bring: exercise mat, free weights and a water bottle.

 

KIDS’ EXERCISE

Come join us to get the winter wiggles out!  Have fun & stay fit with this kids’ fitness class.  We will have low-impact stations with exercises to fit each grade level.  This class is geared toward children ages 4K – 3rd grade.  No class Jan. 30.

CROSS COUNTRY SKIING

Train for the Birkie, the Kortelopet, the  Prince Haakon or no race at all!

Trade River Trails - Frederic    Instr:  Ian Karl

FEE:  $20 or $5/session (fee supports trail grooming costs)

Come share camaraderie and technique tips and/or train for a ski race.   All adults welcome - bring your kids for no additional cost.   Build skills and memories together. Meet at the trail head at 5:30 for a weekly mini-lesson, then ski at your own pace.  Classical or skate skiing equipment is required and headlamps are strongly encouraged.  Ian Karl is a 6-time Birkie finisher, CXC trained Nordic coach and lifelong Nordic skier.

 

CRAFT DAY

Saturday – Jan. 25 from 8am – 6pm

MEGA-BATCH FREEZER MEAL PREP

Tuesday – Jan. 28 at 6pm

Prepare homemade family-sized chicken meals (with leftovers!) including: savory chicken tacos (crockpot), pulled chicken (crockpot), honey-glazed chicken legs (baked) & creamy chicken penne (skillet). Your 9 freezer meals will include 40# of Amish chicken which will be purchased from Daeffler’s Quality Meats and all ingredients, gallon freezer bags and bag holders (yours to keep) will be provided. Bring a cooler to transport your freezer meals home. There will be a drawing for a gift card from Daeffler’s Quality Meats. Meat needs to be ordered in advance, so please register by January 17th.

 

 

NAVIGATING THE HEALTH INSURANCE MARKETPLACE

KIDS KNIT – Two Sticks & Some String

Beginning Knitting for grades 3-8

Tuesdays – Feb. 4 – Feb. 25 from 3:30-4:30pm

Ever wondered what's possible with two sticks and some string?  Come and learn a fun and challenging lifelong skill that you can take practically anywhere.  We'll learn about different needles, yarns and other tools of the trade. Learn how to cast-on, bind off, the knit stitch, the purl stitch, plus varieties of the knit and purl stitches as time and skills allow.  After knitting a practice swatch, we’ll move on to a sampler scarf where students can practice the stitches they've learned. Bring a pair of knitting needles and yarn if you have them.  Needles will be available to borrow if needed and some yarn will be available to use.  Maximum of 10 students.

 

KNITTING WORKSHOP

Learn to knit, refresh your knitting skills or get help with a project.  Use this class to complete your project or start something new.  Supplies will be furnished for beginners to get you started.  A drawing will be held for a free skein of yard and a hat pattern.

HOW TO CHOOSE A PET

Do you want a family pet for the children or yourself?  Do you have questions on care and what might be best for your family?  You will be given insight on services and you will get to see live critters and learn about the care that they need.  A drawing will be held for a free bag of dog food.  Tammi is the owner of Wild Spirits & Tammi’s Wildlife Rescue.

 

VALENTINE WATERCOLOR DRIP CAKE

Thursday – Feb. 13 from 6-9pm

Need a cake to celebrate someone you love?  How about a luscious cake with a beautiful watercolor buttercream and dark chocolate ganache drip?  Of course, we will need to top the cake with some chocolate hearts and edible sparkle!  This class includes everything needed for use in the class and you will go home with a finished 8-inch cake.  All supplies included.  You need only to bring an apron and a box to transport finished cake home.

 

GOLDILOCKS – Old Gem Theater (New Richmond)

“Who’s been sleeping in my hammock?”  The Three Bears try to relax on their Hawaiian vacation away from winter’s cold.  But they don’t rest for long due to a certain mischievous blonde!  Be prepared for audience participation – this is going to be fun!  Ride the school bus to the Old Gem Theater for a 1-hour show and return before lunch.  The bus will leave Frederic Elementary at 8:30am and return to Frederic around 12:15pm.  Recommended ages:  4-11.  All children must be accompanied by a supervising adult.  Please register by February 7th.

 

SEW AN ACTIVITY MAT

Thursday – Feb. 20 – Mar. 19  from 6-8pm

FEE:  $20 (class)  - Materials will be donated by Robin Peterson & Frederic Public Library

Learn to design and sew a lap-sized Activity Mat’.  These mats provide a soothing and stimulating activity for people living with Alzheimer’s, dementia or recovering from a stroke.  This project is designed for all levels of sewers ages 15 and older.  If you are new to sewing, you will be taught basics and still be able to create a project for this worthy cause.  Bring your own sewing machine or use one of the 6 machines provided at the school.  Please bring a pair of sewing scissors if you have them.  All ‘Activity Mats’ created in the class are intended to be donated locally.

 

 

THAI COOKING

MONDAY - March 2 from 6-9pm  **2nd Class!  (2/25 class is FULL)

Do you like Thai cooking but can't pronounce the names?  No worries - come to Chef Peter Kwong's Thai Cooking class and learn not only how to pronounce the names, but how to make Thai dishes yourself.  Come learn how easy and simple it is to make Pad Thai, Tom Yum Goong, Tom Kha Gai and other mouth-watering dishes.  It’s fun!  A drawing will be held for Peter's new book, 'Have You Eaten'.

 

MAKE A CEDAR CHEST

Tuesdays/Thursdays – Mar. 3 – Mar. 19

Get in the Tech Ed room and learn how to make a wooden keepsake chest.  Build a cherished keepsake chest using simple construction joints with wood-splined corners.  Approximate size of chest will be 16” long x 10” wide x 9” tall.  Maximum of 10 students.

 

ZOO CUPCAKES

Monday – March 9 from 3:30-5:30pm

This class is designed for both kids and adults – beginners or experienced.  You will be provided 6 cupcakes and use buttercream and fondant to turn them into some of your favorite zoo animals.  All supplies will be provided for use in the class.  Please bring a carrier to take your cupcakes home.

 

DIY COFFEE BEAN ROASTING

Saturday – March 14 at 9am  (this is rescheduled from 1/18)

Lean how to roast coffee beans using a hot air popper! Taste fresh roasted coffee using 4 different methods of preparation and learn where to purchase your green coffee beans and other roasting supplies. Sit back and enjoy some coffee and a scone while visiting with other community members. Ordering beans takes time! Register early to ensure you go home with ½# of coffee beans!

 

PLANT-BASED NUTRITIONAL COOKING

Eating healthy can be delicious with the right seasonings and flavors!  Join Holly for an evening of tips and tricks for making healthy, nutritious and delicious meals.  Learn which foods help prevent and even fight off disease and which ones contribute toward it.  Holly will be cooking vegetable dishes as she educates you.  Come hungry!  You will be sampling several courses.  There will be a drawing for free olive oil & balsamic vinegar.

 

BUTTERCREAM BASICS – FROSTING THE CAKE

Lean how to bake, torte, fill and frost a cake.  We’ll cover techniques from rustic to perfectly smooth.  All tools will be provided for use in the class.  Please bring 2 8-inch cake layers and a box to carry your cake home.  **This class is a pre-requisite to Glorious Ganache and Fondant Fundamentals.

 

CHILDREN’S MUSEUM of Eau Claire

Friday – Mar. 27 (NO SCHOOL DAY) at 9:30am

FEE:  $18

Let’s go PLAY and LEARN at the Children’s Museum of Eau Claire!  This interactive environment inspires imagination, creativity, discovery and the love of learning.  The Children’s Museum offers non-traditional learning opportunities that help kids of all ages see, touch, learn and grow their way through important developmental milestones.  The school bus will leave Frederic Elementary at 9:30am and return around 3:30pm.  Bring a bag lunch to enjoy at the museum.  Recommended ages:  4-11.  All children must be accompanied by a supervising adult.  Please register by March 13th.

BABYSITTING 101

3-7th graders – Come to the Roots & Branches Community Childcare Center and learn about the following:  Business of babysitting, Character of babysitting, Marketing your skills & business, Engaging kids of all ages, First aid, Emergency situations (choking, CPR & 911), Safety for kids & Common problems and solutions.  You will receive a Babysitting 101 checklist and a course completion certificate.

 

 

FINDING YOUR BALANCE –  Fall prevention for Seniors

Tuesdays – Apr. 7 – May 5 from 10:30am-noon

Come join this 5-week class for seniors.  As we get older, many of us worry more about falling. Finding Your Balance is an engaging program designed to reduce the chance of falling for those who attend. Topics covered: Exercises for balance and strength, understanding risk factors for falling and simple strategies for reducing the chances of falling both at home and when out and about.  There will be a drawing for a free pair of hand or ankle weights at the last session.  Sponsored by UW-Madison Division of Extension and St. Croix Regional Medical Center.

 

GLORIOUS GANACHE

Ever wonder how cake decorators get perfectly smooth sides and crisp corners?  Let Tammy introduce you to a cake decorator’s delicious secret weapon – ganache!  We’ll go over how to make this lovely recipe and how to use it to create a chocolate ‘shell’ to go under your fondant for a beautifully smooth finish.  All supplies will be provided for use in this class.  You will go home with a finished 6-inch cake.  **Buttercream Basics – Frosting a Cake is a pre-requisite to taking this class.  This class is a pre-requisite to taking Fondant Fundamentals.

 

FONDANT FUNDAMENTALS

Tuesday – Apr. 14 from 6-9pm

Learn how to make fondant from scratch using marshmallows and sugar.  Also learn how to use it not only to cover a cake for a smooth finish but how to decorate with it.  All supplies will be provided for use in this class.  You will go home with a 6-inch finished cake.  **Buttercream Basics – Frosting a Cake and Glorious Ganache are a pre-requisite to taking this class.

 

LIVEN UP YOUR DISHES WITH OIL & VINEGAR

Learn about the many uses for Extra Virgin Olive Oils and Barrel Aged Balsamic Vinegars! In this class, you will learn what to look for in choosing high quality oils and vinegars. You will use a wide variety of oils and vinegars to show their versatility for breakfast, lunch, appetizers, dinner and of course desserts! Oil and vinegars are an excellent way to add great depth of flavor to dishes without all the chopping and preparing when using fresh foods from scratch. You'll be taught short-cuts and time-savers without skimping on flavor. Come hungry! You will be eating many small bites of different foods.  There will be a drawing for free olive oil & balsamic vinegar.

 

PREVENTION 101 for Parents & Community

Parents, teachers, neighbors! Join us to learn how we can work together to prevent alcohol, nicotine and other drug use.

Together we will…

  • Discuss local substance use trends
  • Learn about tools to use in our community
  • Brainstorm and share ideas for activities
  • Discover what you can do to help prevent substance use in our neck of the woods

Angel Hands Thrift Shop will be providing a $10 gift card in a drawing at the class.

Training is provided by: We Support Recovery and Polk United.  All proceeds benefit We Support Recovery.

 

PORCH POT

Monday – Apr. 20 at 6:30pm

FEE:  $10 + materials used (material fee to be paid at the class)

Bring your own container or purchase one at the store and create a unique and beautiful display just in time for spring!  Choose from a wide assortment of plants.  You will receive tips and ideas and when you are finished creating, your pot can stay in the greenhouse where it can continue to grow and flourish until you are ready to bring it home to display.

 

NATURAL SOLUTIONS FOR SUMMER

Tuesday – Apr. 21 from 6-8pm

Come and learn about how to use essential oils to prepare for the summer season and ditch a few over the counter medicines and toxic sprays! Make 3 rollerball blends, natural bug spray and after-sun spray. 

Rollerball blends are:  Bite & Sting Relief,  Pollen Seasonal Relief or Healing Blend (cuts and scrapes) and Take a Hike Muscle Blend. 

 

 

PUPPY MANNERS

Thursdays – Apr. 23 – June 4 from 6:30-7:15pm

This class is designed to start your puppy’s training off the right way – so he/she doesn’t get into bad habits that need to be broken later.  The class is geared toward puppies 10 weeks to 5 months of age.  No dogs for the first session.  This class is also a good place to socialize your new puppy; your puppy will start building positive relationships and behaviors.  Mary is the owner of Sunshine Canine Training Academy.

  

CHINESE COOKING

THURSDAY - April 30 from 6-9pm   **2nd Class!  (Apr. 28th class is FULL).

You don't need all the fancy gadgets to create your favorite Chinese dishes. Peter will 

show you how to make Spring Rolls (with dipping sauce), won tons, Yang Chow Fried

Rice, Sweet & Sour Chicken and more - from your own kitchen. You'll be surprised by how simple and easy it is - and how tasty and delicious!  Learn for yourself – share it with family and friends.  A drawing will be held for Peter's new book, 'Have You Eaten'.

 

WOOD FLORAL INSPIRATIONAL PLAQUE

Thursday – Apr. 30 from 6-9pm

Make a paper décor piece (on a wooden plaque) for your home or to give as a gift.  Use rubber stamps, punches and die cuts using a Big Shot machine to customize the sentiment and colors to your needs.   Project size:  7.75” x 10”.

 

PHOTOGRAPHY PHOTO WALK

Monday – May 4 from 7-8:30pm

As a follow up to our Photography 101 class, Jeremiah (owner of Stavne Media) will be returning for a Photography Photo Walk class – location is to be determined yet.  You will receive hands-on training for capturing anything from wildlife to sunsets!   Bring your camera gear and get ready to explore and learn how to use your Camera in real life situations!  Students with all levels of experience are welcome.

 

MOSAIC SIGNS / FRAMES

Tuesdays – May 5 & 12 from 6-9pm

FEE:  $28 Class fee + material fee (payable to instructor)

SIGNS: This is a very popular class; it’s easy, fun and the results are always amazing, even for the artistically challenged. Make a sign that welcomes your friends, shows your house numbers or has a message such as No Smoking, Believe or Family. There are a variety of sign sizes to choose from ranging in price from $15-$30 (material fee) depending on how much you have to say! Letter patterns will be available to use, or bring your own.

FRAMES: Big, little, wide, narrow, square...all sorts of picture frames to select from ranging in price from $15-$20 (material fee). All the glass is pre-cut so you can begin creating right away. If you don't finish the first night, there will be some homework. The next week you will see your design come together as the grout is applied. Dress for mess & bring towels! This is a fun class to bring kids to (min. age of 10 yrs).

 

COOKING WITH WILD FOODS

Monday – May 18 from 5:30-7:30pm

Are you looking for economic ways to feed yourself and your family healthy food that actually tastes good?  Come and learn how to use some common backyard "weeds" to make delicious and super-nutritious dishes for your family.  No hiking or mosquito spray required – Tanna will bring a nice selection of freshly harvested Wild Foods to work with. This fun, interactive class will include some plant identification, group cooking/food preparation and a satisfying Wild Food dish to enjoy together.  Instructor: Tanna Worrell (aka The Friendly Forager) has been eating wild foods for many years and loves empowering people with knowledge that takes the fear out of foraging.  Check out her blog at www.TheFriendly-Forager.com.

 

NEEDLE FELTING for beginners

Thursday – May 21 from   6-8pm

Frederic HS      Instr:  Pam Schaber from My Alpaca Store/Graceland North Alpacas

FEE:  $10 + $15 material fee (payable to instructor)

Come learn how to needle felt!  Students will be introduced to the art of needle felting while making an adorable gnome.  Materials include a needle felting kit to take home & alpaca wool roving – enough for the gnome and extra.  Kids 12+ are welcome to take this class.
